Past guests have included well known people such as Justin Peters (Justin Peters Ministries), David Weaton (The Christian Worldview), Greg Koukl (Stand to Reason), and Mark Looy (Answers in Genesis); as well as less well-known people equally as knowledgeable in their respective area.

The interview with Becky was a full episode unto itself, so I put my talk with Vony on hold for the time being.

This month I pick up the discussion of persecution with Vony. We talked about her experience as a third-generation Christian in Indonesia, as well as life in more remote parts of her home country that Christians face every day.

I hope you’ll enjoy this discussion. Some of the interviews I have done have been more formal than others, this one ranks among the most informal. Listen in as a “fly on the wall” as I chat with my friend Vony.

Phil is the executive director of Grace to You, the tape and radio ministry that features the teachings of John MacArthur, a member of the Fellowship of Independent Reformed Evangelicals (FIRE), founder and blogger at Pyromaniacs, and curator of The Spurgeon Archive. Phil and I discussed the Doctrines of Grace, specifically the five points of Calvinism.

In the discussion of “Limited Atonement”, Phil referred to a sermon given recently by John MacArthur. That sermon can be found here.

Phil also referred to a lecture he gave called “The Story of Calvinism”, which can be found here, and an essay he wrote about Hyper-Calvinism, which can be found here. At the time this is being posted, his sermon on Philippians 1:6 is not yet posted, but should show up here soon.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:1

Pastor Eric Douma joins me this episode to discuss two theological rules used to prove the deity of Christ from two different verses of New Testament. The construction of John 1:1 in the original Greek disproves Sabellianism (Modalism) and Arianism (similar to what the Jehovah’s Witnesses teach). Eric explains “Colwell’s Rule” and how it reinforces the doctrine of the trinity through this verse.

looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus
Titus 2:13

While Colwell’s Rule is effective in refuting the doctrine of the Modalists and Jehovah’s Witnesses in John 1:1, Eric shares another rule that shows that the Bible teaches the deity of Christ in Titus 2:13, that is “Granville Sharp’s Rule”.

This episode gets fairly technical with the Greek, and with the grammatical rules of these verses, but we also do our utmost to make sure that it is in terms that laymen can understand. I find teachings like this to be fascinating, and hope you will too.

Last week I had the pleasure of visiting the Creation Museum in northern Kentucky (just outside Cincinnati, Ohio), which is owned and operated by Answers in Genesis. While there, I had the opportunity to speak with a few members of the AiG staff.

Mark Looy is a co-founder, and the Chief Communications Officer of AiG. He sat down with me to talk about Answers in Genesis and the Creation Museum itself.

Following my discussion with Mark, Dr. Terry Mortenson joined me. Terry is an expert in the history of geology, and spoke with me about some interesting aspects of geology that seem to be best explained by a global, catastrophic flood as described in Genesis 6. In the course of our discussion, Terry also mentions his book, The Great Turning Point, as well as a book he contributed to: Coming to Grips with Genesis.

Lastly, I spoke with Dr. Georgia Purdom, an expert in molecular genetics. She and I discussed some interesting facts about biology that fit nicely into the Young-Earth Creationist point of view, but present problems for Evolutionists.

I very much enjoyed my visit to the Creation Museum, and was glad that we decided to make the trip down there. In addition to the museum, they have a great planetarium show, wonderful landscaping with trails, and a petting zoo, complete with two hybrid animals, a zorse (half horse, half zebra) and a zonkey (half donkey, half zebra).

As Mark mentions in our conversation, it was strategically located to be within a day’s drive of nearly 3/4 of the nation’s population.

Together, we discuss the Christian’s attitude toward government. It is basically a soft exposition of Romans 13:1-7. When is a Christian commanded to submit to government? When is a Christian commanded to resist, or disobey government? Nick and I have a relatively informal discussion about these questions, along with several others related to a Christian’s position in relation to the government he lives under.

In the course of the discussion, I mentioned a video I recently watched on Youtube addressing various forms of government. That video was posted here.

A popular teaching in Evangelical Christianity says that God has a plan (or a will) for us in our individual lives. Some say the level of detail of that plan is limited to major decisions in life such as who to marry, what career to pursue, where to go to college, etc. Others believe that even the minor decisions are planned out by God, such as: what kind of tooth paste to buy, what route to take to work, or how to style your hair. However, most agree that we as Christians need to seek Gods will in that plan, and can hear God speak to us in this regard by way of inner promptings, subjective signs, having a peace about a decision, or other subjective means. Pastors DeWaay and Gilley disagree with this "Popular View" (as Pastor Gilley calls it). After holding a conference about the importance of the Reformation doctrine of Sola Scriptura, I had the privilege of sitting down with them to discuss the topic. We talked about where the view stems from, why they disagree with it, and what the scriptural arguments are for both sides of the view.

In this month’s episode of Echo Zoe Radio, Bob DeWaay of Twin City Fellowship Church in St. Louis Park, MN joins me as co-host. Our guest is Pastor Gary Gilley of Southern View Chapel in Springfield, Illinois. The topic of the discussion is “Hearing from God”.

We talked about where the view stems from, why they disagree with it, and what the scriptural arguments are for both sides of the view.

In the course of the discussion, Pastor Gilley explains the importance of practicing sound Biblical hermeneutics. Pastor DeWaay recommends a course taught at Twin City Fellowship on hermeneutics by Ryan Habbena, available for free at their website.

For more on the subject, Gary Gilley has written a book called “Is That You Lord?: Hearing the voice of the Lord, A Biblical Perspective,” which is available at his church’s online bookstore.

Back in September, Justin Peters was in town to do a seminar on the Word of Faith movement. While he was in town, I had the privilege to sit down with him and talk about his ministry and his seminars. This episode is, in essence, a summary of many of the major points that he discusses in his seminar.

Justin is a graduate of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he earned a Master of Divinity with Biblical Languages in 2000 and a Master of Theology in 2002. He is a full time evangelist, with a ministry composed of expository preaching and presenting his seminars critiquing the Word of Faith movement. He is from Vicksburg, Mississippi.

Some of the Word of Faith teachers that we discussed include: Benny Hinn, Kenneth & Gloria Copeland, Creflo Dollar, Jesse Duplantis, and Todd Bentley. We discussed the origins of Word of Faith movement, heresies taught by the movement, and many of the things that go on at their “revival meetings.”

For more about Justin, you can visit his website at justinpeters.org. If Justin is going to be in your area, I highly recommend his seminar. If he isn’t , he sells a set of DVDs of the seminar, available at his website.

Special thanks to Martha Mac, Rick Wagner, and Sandy Russel of SO4J-TV & Video Productions, who brought Justin to town to do the seminar, and went out of their way to help arrange this interview.

Also: I have put together a new email newsletter to notify those interested when new episodes are posted. If you’d like to receive an email notification of new podcast episodes, you can sign up at:

Sam Madrid, my guest for the previous episode, returns for the second episode in a two-part series to discuss Theophostic Prayer Ministry from the point of view of a former auditor for Scientology. He claims that the similarities between Scientology and Theophostics are astonishing, and both are very dangerous. We are joined also by Rick Galarneau, who presents the unscriptural nature of Theophostics.

For more information on Theophostics, Bob DeWaay, pastor of Twin City Fellowship church in St. Louis Park, Minnesota and guest on my first episode, has a powerful article posted at Critical Issues Commentary. He also has a series of CIC radio shows on the subject, also posted at Critical Issues Commentary.

<itunes:summary>Sam Madrid, my guest for the previous episode, returns for the second episode in a two-part series to discuss Theophostic Prayer Ministry from the point of view of a former auditor for Scientology. He claims that the similarities between Scientology and Theophostics are astonishing, and both are very dangerous. We are joined also by Rick Galarneau, who presents the unscriptural nature of Theophostics.</itunes:summary>

In this episode, I interview Sam Madrid, a former Dianetics auditor for the Church of Scientology. Sam gives us insight into the beliefs and practices of this very young religion. He shares the process of how people are typically drawn into Scientology, and how he, as a former member, got out of it. He also teases us with a similar practice that is going on in thousands of Christian Churches today, which he will discuss in greater depth when he returns next month for the second episode in this two-part series.
